Benefits of Installing a Smart Thermostat in your Airbnb
Using a smart thermostat such as Nest, Ecobee4, or Honeywell Lyric T5 has a load of benefits that make Airbnb hosting more convenient while also saving you money. I recently installed the Nest smart programmable thermostat and it’s been a hit right from the start. Here are the top benefits of a wifi enabled programmable thermostat and an easy installation guide on how to install one yourself!
Benefits of Programmable Thermostats for Airbnb Hosts
Remote Temperature Control
Did your guests check out while you were out of the house? You can adjust your thermostat remotely using your smartphone or computer to save you energy and money during the day!
Set A Comfortable Temperature Range for your Airbnb Guests
Some Airbnb guests like to turn the temperature to extremes. I’ve had guests put my house above 80 degrees while others turn it into an arctic freezer. With a smart programmable thermostat like Nest, you can lock your thermostat into a comfortable temperature range by setting a minimum and maximum so guests can still keep the house comfortable while keeping your costs down.
Many of us have a common weekday and weekend schedule. With a programmable thermostat, you can schedule your heating and cooling which means you won’t waste money while your home is empty!
Easy to Install
It may sound difficult to install your own smart wifi thermostat, but it’s really quite simple! Check out my installation guide below to see how it’s done!
Save Energy and Save Money!
Airbnb guests tend to not be conscious of the energy they use for heating and cooling, so a programmable thermostat is even more necessary for Airbnb hosts. All the above features come together to reduce your energy consumption and save you money!
As I mentioned before, I recently installed a Nest programmable thermostat and took some pictures along the way to illustrate how simple the installation process is!
How to Install a Nest Programmable Thermostat
I was initially intimidated about installing a Nest thermostat, but I figured I’d give it a try. It’s really a simple job and took about 15 minutes to accomplish (and I stopping to take pictures for you!). Here’s how to do it!
Turn Power Off, Remove Thermostat Cover, and Label Wires
Before you do anything, turn off your breaker first! Make sure you electricity is off before starting this job!
Ok, now let’s start! There will be a few wires connected to your old thermostat with letters and/or numbers on them.
Nest comes with stickers so you can labels this wires prior to detaching them from the old thermostat.
Remove Old Thermostat and Fasten Nest to the Wall
With your wires labeled and detached from the old thermostat, simply unscrew and pull it off the wall.
Next, grab your Nest and align it on the wall using the built in level. Mark the wall where the screws will be placed.
Now attach the cover plate to the Nest and and screw the Nest thermostat on the wall.
Attach Nest Thermostat Dial, Turn Power Back On, and Get Started!
Attach the Nest Thermostat Dial to the wall by pressing down until you hear a click. You can turn your power back on at this point. The Nest will start up and immediately take you to settings to walk you through the set up!
With a smart programmable wifi thermostat like Nest, Ecobee4, or Honeywell Lyric T5, Airbnb hosts can save a lot of hassle and money at the same time! The simple installation process makes the deal even sweeter!
